My cycling adventures

Arrival

On Wednesday we all arrived in Toulouse and met our guides.

Grahame, Toffer, and I had a few hours to burn and so toured the Jacobin convent in town.

The rest of the crew arrived just past 1pm, and so, we hopped in vans to head to our first stop, Lourdes.

It was as if we had not seen each other in days

We drove from Toulouse to Lourdes, a special place of healing for many. It is here that the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to a girl in the 1850s, and showed her where to dig to uncover a spring.

We tried, but didn’t quite, get a shakeout ride in before dinner. Instead, we did a quick tour of Lourdes on the bikes, and were amazed at all the people.

Something about “I can see your house from here”

Millions make a pilgrimage here to drink or bathe in the miraculous waters to find healing. Our group found the whole experience awe-inspiring.

What a way to end our first day.
